Thanksgiving is around the corner and if you’re hosting, you’ve got a lot of prepping to do. Each year I host Friendsgiving, we’ve always done a potluck, but this year I am making MOST of the food. To be less overwhelmed I decided to get ready before the actual dinner. Here are 3 easy dishes to prepare ahead of time for Thanksgiving.
3 Easy Dishes to Prepare Ahead of Time for Thanksgiving
Mashed Potatoes
This dish is my favorite to eat and the best to make before the big day. I make my mashed potatoes 2 days beforehand. Leave it in the fridge and to warm it back up add it to a crockpot. It’s the easiest way to head it back up, add a little bit of heavy whipping cream to the pot.
Sweet Potato
Just like mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole is so easy to make and store. On the day all you have to do is top it with marshmallows and warm it up. One thing I do is let the casserole sit on the countertop to make sure it gets to room temperature. If you put it from the fridge into the oven you run the risk of the sweet potatoes being cold and only the marshmallows being warmed. Let it sit out for a couple of hours.
Stuffing mirepoix
This isn’t an Entire dish, but it is the most time consuming part of it. Stuffing to me is one of the most time-consuming dishes to make, especially if you’re not using the boxed bread. For this dish, I like to dry out my bread a day ahead of time and prep all the veggies (onions and celery). I use my Cuisinart 14-cup food processor to chop everything (it takes 2 minutes if you use a food processor- LIFE CHANGING!). I put these in separate containers and the day of, I assemble and bake. I also make my broth from scratch but you can use any boxed broth.
