The past year and a half was one of the most challenging seasons of my life. Everything sort of came to a halt—like life was happening all around me, but I wasn’t moving. I felt stuck. Tired. Burnt out. Just kind of floating through time. I knew it was time to revamp my morning routine to start my journey into living with intention.
It wasn’t until last August that things started to shift. I found a therapist who truly got me—and over the last 10 months, she’s helped me unpack so much. From emotional wellness to daily habits, she helped me reconnect with myself in a way I hadn’t in a long time.
Since then, I’ve been rebuilding with intention. I’m no longer just surviving my days—I’m choosing how I want to live them. And for me, it all starts in the morning. This intentional wellness morning routine has helped me feel more grounded, more connected, and more like myself.
Here’s a look at what it looks like right now.
Intentional Morning Routine
1. I Wake Up Early (Before My Kids)
This is sacred time. Even if it’s just 20–30 minutes, waking up before the house is busy gives me space to breathe and start the day with intention—instead of jumping straight into mom mode. It’s quiet, it’s still, and it’s mine.
2. I Pray + Connect With Myself
Prayer is something pretty new to me, but it’s slowly and gradually become a part of my life—in a really grounding, comforting way.
In the mornings, I take a moment to pause and pray. I thank God for the blessings—big and small. Waking up. Our health. A good parking spot. Just recognizing that my blessings are so much greater than the things I want or feel like I lack.
It’s also my way of reconnecting with me. Before I was a mom, I was just Yadi. And sometimes I like to sit with that—to think about little girl me. I try to honor her, too. Prayer helps me stay centered, connected to God, and more in tune with who I am beyond all the roles I carry.
3. I Drink Warm Lemon Water
This is the first thing I put into my body every morning. I warm up water, add a squeeze of lemon, and mix in creatine (for my muscle gains). It helps with digestion, hydration, and muscle recovery—but more than anything, it’s a simple ritual that signals the start of my day.
4. I Work Out Fasted
I know fasted workouts aren’t for everyone, but they work well for me. I feel lighter, more focused, and more energized when I move on an empty stomach, i had a trainer once tell me to at least eat a banana, so that’s something I am trying to do, but for the most part, I don’t consume food until after my workout. Most mornings I lift weights (I work out 5–6 days a week), and I use this time to clear my head, listen to music, and be fully in my body.
First Steps to Living More Intentionally
If you’re just starting out and wondering, “What’s the first thing I should do?” — here’s what I recommend:
- Pick one small habit you can do every morning that supports your peace. It might be sitting in silence, writing down what you’re grateful for, or even drinking your water before checking your phone.
- Create a cue or reminder that makes this habit easy to stick to — like leaving your journal on your nightstand or putting lemon water by your bed.
- Be consistent with that one thing for a week or two before adding more. Intentional living doesn’t have to start big — it just has to start.
My mornings aren’t perfect. Sometimes things shift or life gets in the way. But these simple habits help me start my day with peace, presence, and purpose. They’ve helped me move from surviving to living with intention—and that’s been the biggest shift of all.
If you’re in a season where you’re trying to reconnect with yourself, know that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You can start small. Even one intentional habit in the morning can change everything.
